The alleged mistress for whom a now-jailed former Deschutes County Sheriff's Office captain stole more than $200,000 pleaded guilty to making false statements to federal agents on Thursday, according to the United States Attorney's Office.
Krista Mudrick pleaded guilty to a charge of making false statements to authorities days after Scott Beard, a former Deschutes County Sheriff's captain, was sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty to embezzling government funds that were used to buy Mudrick gifts including vacations, cosmetic surgeries and a motorcycle.
Mudrick joined the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office in 2011 and worked as a reserve deputy, civil technician and field law enforcement technician. She was fired after she failed to make probation in March 2013, according to the sheriff's office.
In February, the federal government indicted Beard on five charges, including passport fraud, money laundering and theft concerning a program receiving federal funds. Mudrick was indicted on a single charge of making a false statement to authorities.
In May, Beard pleaded guilty to stealing federal funds dedicated to county law enforcement and laundering those funds. The charges of theft stemmed from incidents in which he stole $78,900 in 2014 and $126,847 in 2015. Beard was charged with laundering after buying a Harley-Davidson motorcycle for Mudrick and then putting $14,650 in her bank account.
The relationship allegedly started "at least by October 2013" and continued "until at least September 2015," according to the federal government.
Mudrick is scheduled for sentencing in January 2017, according to Kevin Sonoff, a spokesman for the United States Attorney's Office.
