KENTWOOD - Eyewitness News has learned of another investigation involving the Police Department, following the arrest of its police chief this week.

The Town Attorney says allegations of police officers misusing the department gas card were brought to the City Council in November. Since then, the official determined the case should be investigated by law enforcement, however, two outside agencies have declined to pursue the case. City leaders are expected to take up the situation again soon.

Chief Greg Newton turned himself into authorities Wednesday on charges of Malfeasance in Office and Obstruction of Justice tied to an investigation into missing money from the department’s evidence room.
