BATESVILLE, AR (KAIT) - Special agents with Arkansas State Police are investigating claims a Batesville police officer stole drugs from the evidence room.

On Tuesday, March 8, Don McSpadden, 16th Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney, requested an investigation by the ASP Criminal Investigation Division.

Bill Sadler, public information officer with ASP, said the request “arises out of reports from within the Batesville Police Department of narcotics that may have been illegally removed from the department’s evidence storage area.”

Sadler declined to identify the possible suspect in the case.

He said special agents with ASP’s Criminal Investigation Division are “reviewing evidence audits, video recordings and other evidence associated with the allegations.”

After compiling their evidence, the file will be turned over to McSpadden for consideration of possible criminal charges.

Region 8 News will continue to track this story and bring more details as they emerge.
