Ex-police chief pleads guilty in missing money case

GREENSBURG, Ind. (AP) — The former police chief in Greensburg has pleaded guilty to felony charges stemming from the disappearance of more than $70,000 from the police department's evidence room.

The Greensburg Daily News reports that 49-year-old Stacey L. Chasteen pleaded guilty Wednesday to charges of official misconduct and theft.

A sentencing hearing is scheduled for May 12.

Chasteen was a longtime member of the department in the community about 50 miles southeast of Indianapolis. She served as its chief from 2011 until her resignation late last year.

She was charged after an Indiana State Police audit found nearly $73,000 in cash missing from a department evidence room.

Chasteen told investigators she lost the money while gambling.

Her husband, longtime fire chief Scott Chasteen, resigned in February. He has not been charged.
