A 28-year-old woman is in custody after Farmington police discovered a she had been stealing money and prescription drugs from the evidence storage room since April.

Police are still taking inventory to see what is missing, but say that so far, the thefts represent about 34 open investigations, and they have found about $3,000 missing.

"We were preparing to do another audit this week and that fueled some of her actions, so she began to move quickly to dispose of evidence, so we weren't going to find all the empty containers," said Farmington Police Chief Steve Hebbe.

The woman told police she took the drugs for personal use.
