A former Faulkner County deputy of the year who oversaw operations at the Faulkner County jail resigned Friday after investigators began looking into prescription drugs that disappeared from the department, authorities said.

The Faulkner County sheriff's office said that on Thursday it "uncovered evidence" of prescription drugs that disappeared before they were to be destroyed.

"As a result, Captain Lloyd Vincent was immediately placed on administrative leave late Thursday night," the agency said in a statement. "As of this morning, Captain Vincent has resigned from the Faulkner County Sheriffs Office and a criminal investigation has been initiated and is ongoing."

According to a biography on the sheriff's office website, Vincent oversaw the operations of both jail locations and had been with the agency for nine years. As a patrol officer, Vincent was the 2007 deputy of the year and was nominated for the 20th Judicial District officer of the year in 2011, the website said. He was promoted to detention captain at the beginning of last year.

Messages left with a sheriff's office spokesman seek additional information weren't immediately returned.
