Former state cop pleads in stolen drug case

SEDRICK REED: Enters plea.

David Goins of Fox 16 reports on Twitter that Sedrick Reed, 44, a former State Police lieutenant, has entered a guilty plea to a federal charge that he stole drugs from a police evidence room for resale at a $200,000 profit.

Reed was arrested last year. Evidence against him included wire taps and video surveillance of the evidence room.

The U.S. attorney's office said Reed pleaded to conspiracy to distribute and to possess with intent to distribute cocaine. Additional charges were dismissed. The sentence ranges begin with not less than 10 years on the more serious charge.

He also had to forfiet property, including $30,000 in cash.

The U.S. attorney's office said Reed admitted to participating in a conspiracy to distribute between five and fifteen kilograms of cocaine between 2006 and 2013. Reed admitted that he abused a position of public trust and possessing a firearm during the conspiracy. Reed admitted to diverting drugs from a traffic stop and taking drugs from the ASP evidence locker. Reed further admitted that during the course of the conspiracy, Reed profited in excess of $200,000 from the resale of these stolen drugs.
