More information has been made public following last week's arrest of a Birmingham police officer on felony charges.

The Jefferson County District Attorney's Office on Friday issued warrants against Officer Tony Noble Williams for first-degree theft of property and ethics law violation, police announced Saturday. No details of his alleged crimes, however, were released at that time.

According to charging documents, the 38-year-old South Precinct officer on March 14 obtained control over two rings valued at a combined $17,950. He reportedly took possession of them after they were lost or misplaced and later turned in to someone who then called Birmingham police.

The theft charge, records state, is because Williams "with intent to deprive the owner permanently of said property...did fail to take reasonable measures to discover and notify" the female who owned the rings.

As for the ethics violation charge, the arrest affidavit states that Williams "did assert unauthorized control over lost jewelry...which was secured inside the Birmingham Police Department by using information given to him in his official capacity."

Williams was booked into the Jefferson County Jail at 1:26 a.m. Saturday and released at 3:23 a.m. after posting $10,000 bond. Court records do not yet list an attorney, but Williams was scheduled to make his first court appearance Tuesday morning.
