Piscataway, NJ

PISCATAWAY — A township police officer has been arrested and charged with taking an undetermined amount of cocaine while working as the department’s evidence officer, Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce J. Kaplan and Piscataway Police Chief Richard Ivone announced today.

Albert A. Annuzzi, 47, of Matawan, was arrested on April 25 and charged with one count each of official misconduct; theft by unlawful taking and tampering with evidence.

The charges are the result of an investigation by the Piscataway Police Department and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office that alleges that Annuzzi took the cocaine for personal use from the evidence room while he was working as the evidence officer, a position he held since February 2010.

Annuzzi was suspended from duty and remains free after posting $50,000 bail, which was set in New Brunswick by Superior Court Judge Diane Pincus.
