Police dept. evidence room break-in investigated

EAST KINGSTON (AP) — The police chief and a corporal in East Kingston are on paid administrative leave as the state attorney general's office investigates concerns arising from a jail inmate's break-in at the department's evidence room.

Senior Assistant Attorney General Jane Young tells WMUR-TV the investigation is in its early stages.

The attorney general's office says last month, Jarred Brisbois was left unsupervised at the station and broke into the evidence room. Police said he found heroin and marijuana inside the evidence room, used some of the drugs, and brought some back to jail.

Rockingham County Attorney Jim Reams said the incident may have compromised two cases. The town has put Police Chief Richard Simpson and Cpl. Mark Iannuccillo on paid leave.
