Glens Falls, NY

GLENS FALLS -- DNA evidence has led to the arrest of an Argyle man on a charge he burglarized a Glens Falls real estate office last summer, police said.

Frederick A. Stimpson, 45, was charged with third-degree burglary, a felony, in the July 11-12 break-in at Balfour Realty's office on Glen Street, Glens Falls Police Detective Sgt. Paul Frettoloso said.

Stimpson, who has five prior felony convictions, is accused of breaking through a door and ransacking the office, Frettoloso said. Nothing was found to be missing, though.

The burglar was hurt when going through the door, and blood recovered at the scene was sent to the State Police crime laboratory for analysis.

Stimpson's DNA is in the state databank because of his criminal history, and Glens Falls Police were notified recently that there was a match, Frettoloso said.

"He gave a confession and said he went in because he was cold in July," Frettoloso said.

Stimpson is on parole for a 2007 attempted robbery conviction that occurred after he tried to rob a Glens Falls bar. At least two of his four other felony convictions relate to burglaries, according to prior media reports.

He was arraigned in City Court and was sent to Warren County Jail without bail.
