HOUSTON (KTRK) -- The Harris County District Attorney's Office has thrown out a drug case after an employee discarded crucial evidence.

David Bellamy, 40, was arrested in June 2015 on drug charges. This April, prosecutors realized that drugs that were to be used as evidence in the cast against Bellamy were missing from the Harris County Constable Precinct 4 Office's evidence room.

On Tuesday evening, the prosecutor in Bellamy's case learned that the missing drugs were from his case, which was then dismissed on Wednesday.

"God was just blessing us today. I've been praying and praying and praying something happens to come up that this doesn't go through," Bellamy's mother told Eyewitness News.

The Precinct 4 Constable says an employee threw drugs away -- and was fired for doing so.

It's not immediately clear if evidence related to other cases has also been discarded, but authorities are frantically trying to sort through the evidence room before another case has to be dismissed.
