Property Room Technician - La Crosse, WI

Salary: Starting wage of $18.78 to $21.22 (See Additional Instructions Below)

Job Requirements:

Associate degree in Police Science or related field; or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities. This career position requires accuracy, self-motivation, strong communication skills, competence in computers and office software, the ability to work independently, and a valid driver's license. Ongoing professional training will be provided.

Selected candidate is subject to a background check and post-offer/pre-employment drug screen, physical exam, and physical capacity screening.

Job Duties:

The purpose of this position is to accept, control and dispose of found, recovered or evidentiary property according to applicable laws and department policies and procedures. In addition to other duties, the Property Room Technician is responsible for the following:
  • Maintain all evidence/property and ensure security of all items. 
  • Process, bar code, enter, and determine proper storage of all items. 
  • Submit transmittal to Crime Lab for Testing and Analysis.
  • Audit property for proper coding, packaging and description. 
  • Assist with inquiries from officers, supervisors, and public.
  • Release evidence and property to appropriate parties.
  • Maintain comprehensive records related to evidence and property.

Additional Instructions:

This non-exempt position begins May, 2021 and will have a three to four-month paid training period with a starting wage of $18.78 to $21.22 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience. Following the training period, wage will increase to a range of $22.00 to $25.20 per hour. Full pay range is up to $28.86 per hour.
