West Greenwich, RI

WEST GREENWICH, R.I.—A Rhode Island police dispatcher has been charged with stealing $8,000 from an evidence room by climbing through a small cabinet crawl space in an adjacent office.

State police said Monday that 33-year-old Raymond Tarbox turned off a video recorder monitoring the entrance to the West Greenwich police department evidence room before entering through the crawl space.

State police Capt. Michael Winquist says Tarbox, who is 4 feet 2 inches tall and weighs about 120 pounds, was able to use the crawl space because of his size.

Winquist says authorities learned the money was missing after its rightful owner sought to retrieve it last week.

Tarbox is charged with larceny over $500. A message was left at his Coventry home on Monday.
