RICHWOOD, W.Va. (AP) - West Virginia state police say a Richwood police officer has been arrested in the theft of prescription pain pills from a police evidence room.

State police spokesman Sgt. Michael Baylous says 42-year-old Gerald Paul Tinney Jr. of Craigsville was arrested Tuesday on charges of breaking and entering, entering without breaking and delivery of a controlled substance.

Baylous says an investigation found Tinney and another man illegally entered the Richwood police department’s evidence room on Dec. 26 in which about 30 hydrocodone pills were stolen.

Baylous says Tinney was arraigned in Nicholas County Magistrate Court. Tinney is being held on $35,000 bond in the Central Regional Jail. Jail records didn’t indicate whether Tinney has an attorney.

Baylous says an arrest of the second suspect is pending.
