St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office to investigate missing evidence, which included $6,300 and narcotics that could not be found in the evidence room of the Causeway Police Department, officials said.

Sgt. William Jones Jr. faces one count of felony theft and malfeasance after an investigation that began at the request of Causeway police Chief Nick Congemi.
Congemi asked the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office to investigate missing evidence, which included $6,300 and narcotics that could not be found in the evidence room of the Causeway Police Department, officials said.
Investigators said Jones, 44, ultimately confessed to the theft. He was fired after his arrest. Additional details about the investigation were not released.
"Whenever a law enforcement officer fails to uphold his oath to our citizens, it affects all of us," St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Randy Smith said. "We will not tolerate corruption of any kind in this parish."
Jones was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail. The Sheriff's Office did not release a photo of him and bond has not been set.
