SUNRISE (CBSMiami) – Sunrise Police arrested one of their own employees on six counts of felony grand theft.

Norma Currlin was taken into custody, Friday August 30, 2013.

According to Sunrise Police, Currlin was a Police Property and Evidence Technician.

Police have been investigating Currlin since May 2012, but said the crimes began before then.

A complaint affidavit states Currlin stands accused of taking controlled substances from evidence including Oxycodone, Hyrdocodone and Alprazalam.

An internal audit of the evidence room led to a full inventory of the narcotics.

Currlin is suspected of tampering or removing numerous narcotics from their packaging possibly dating as far back as 2006 when she became an employee with the department.

On numerous occasions, police said she refused to provide DNA so she could be excluded from the persons possibly responsible.

Police said they questioned Currlin and she would visibly become uncomfortable when confronted about the narcotics.
