VINELAND — A local man was charged Wednesday with breaking into the prescription drug disposal box at the Police Department while on duty, officials said.

Richard Janasiak, 30, was accused of possession of prescription legend drugs, Cumberland County Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae said in a statement.

Janasiak is listed as an officer at the Vineland Police Department on the department directory. The Daily Journal reported he has been with the department for three and a half years.

Between February and March 2016, Janasiak allegedly accessed the prescription drug box and removed substances on several occasions while on duty, the statement said.

Janasiak took prescription legend drugs, or stramonium preparation, in an amount of at least five dosage units not lawfully prescribed or administered by a licensed physician, the statement said.

Janasiak's next scheduled court date on the matter is Aug. 21.
