Winfield, MO

WINFIELD - The Winfield Board of Aldermen voted Tuesday night to suspend Police Chief Jim Johnson without pay until a disciplinary hearing can be held, city attorney Patrick Flynn said.

Flynn would not say why the board voted to suspend Johnson, a former Lincoln County sheriff. He said the board has scheduled a closed disciplinary hearing for Johnson on June 1.

A Winfield officer named Bud Chrum was arrested last week for allegedly attempting to buy cocaine.

Chrum told investigators he was trying to buy the cocaine to replace some in the department's evidence locker that he accidentally had damaged. Johnson fired him on May 22, the day after he was arrested.
