Blount County, AL

BLOUNT COUNTY, Alabama -- A special prosecutor has been appointed to look into claims of missing drugs and money at the Blount County Sheriff's Office.

E. Paul Jones, the district attorney for Chambers, Tallapoosa, Randolph and Macon counties, was appointed as special prosecutor by the attorney general, Blount County District Attorney Pamela Casey said Tuesday.

The Alabama Bureau of Investigation finished the investigation and turned it over to the district attorney, Department of Public Safety spokesman Sgt. Steve Jarrett said.

Casey said she asked for a special prosecutor to take over the case, which involves drug evidence that may have disappeared from the sheriff's office.

Casey said she did not notify media about the investigation but did confirm details about the case.
