Fullerton, CA

A longtime civilian employee with the Fullerton Police Department was arrested Thursday on suspicion of stealing money from the agency's property room.

April Baughman, 52, was arrested after an officer discovered a discrepancy in the cash count of money kept in the property room, the department said in a statement.

The alleged thefts took place between 2009 and 2011, police said. Investigators had not determined the amount of money that was stolen. Baughman has been a department employee for 22 years.

"When there are violations of the public trust, or actions which result in the reduction of confidence in the Police Department, disciplinary action will be taken swiftly and decisively," acting Police Chief Dan Hughes said in the statement.
