FAQ: Certification

  • What is the difference between
    CPES and CCPES certification? +

    CPES stands for Certified Property and Evidence Specialist and refers to law enforcement agency professionals. CCPES stands for Corporate Certified Property and Evidence Specialist for non-law enforcement corporations and companies.
  • What are the requirements to become certified? +

    To become certified, CPES, you must be a, IAPE member in-good-standing with IAPE, have successfully taken the Property Management class offered by IAPE, applied and passed the CPES test, and paid the fee for the certification. The requirements for CCPES are somewhat similar to the CPES. Please refer to the Certification page for more detailed information.
  • Where do I go to take the certification test? +

    Once your application and payment are received and processed you will be emailed a website link and log-in information. The entire test process takes place online and is text-based, so there are no internet connection speed issues.
  • When do I know my test results
    and get my certificate? +

    You will know immediately at the completion of the 75 multiple choice questions if you have passed. You will be mailed your certificate within 2 to 3 weeks.
  • How long is my certification valid? +

    Once you are certified, your certification is good for 5 years. Apply for RE-certification here.

    The Evidence Log is the quarterly publcation sent to our members. The Evidence Log is the best printed magazine for up to date information and resources for evidence and property room professionals. Click for more info..
  • Where can I find evidence room policy examples and management forms and can I utilize them for my agency? +

    We have great online resources that you can download, forms to use to guide you in writing policies and manuals and our exclusive book.

FAQ : IAPE Membership

  • How much is IAPE membership? +

    Membership is currently only $65 annually for new and renewing members. To join or renew your membership see our Membership page.
  • Can an agency or department be a member? +

    Membership and certification are for individuals only.
  • Can anyone become an IAPE member? +

    There are certain requirements that must be met to qualify for membership. Please read our "Requirements for Membership". To join, fill out the online form and pay the annual dues, either online or by mail.
