Fayette County, OH

A former Fayette County deputy sheriff pleaded guilty yesterday to stealing $29,903 in cash from the office's property room.

Douglas Coe, 33, of Jeffersonville, pleaded guilty to theft in office in Fayette County Common Pleas Court in Washington Court House.

Coe faces one to five years in prison when sentenced June 7 by Judge Steven Beathard.

Coe resigned in January after Sheriff Vernon Stanforth and his staff discovered thefts of money seized during drug arrests. Detectives from Franklin and Ross counties were called in to investigate.
