WILSON COUNTY, Tenn. – A former Wilson County Deputy who pleaded guilty to federal charges of official misconduct was sentenced to more than 18 years in prison on Friday.

Edwards pleaded guilty in February for his attempt to sell information about a federal investigation of a drug trafficking organization being conducted by the FBI and the DEA.

He was indicted in 2011 on a laundry list of charges including attempted first-degree murder, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated robbery, money laundering, official misconduct, theft, and tampering with evidence in a string of crimes that authorities said stretch back several years.

According to the indictment, Edwards stole drugs from a police evidence room and tried to sell them. Police said he shook down drug dealers for cash. He was also accused of fabricating evidence while working on the drug task force.
