Former ASP Officer To Change Plea in Drug Evidence Theft Case

LITTLE ROCK, AR - A former Arkansas State Police lieutenant accused of stealing drugs out of the evidence room will change his plea in his federal criminal case next week.

Sedrick Reed, 44, faces five felony counts of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute heroin and cocaine. He entered a not-guilty plea in July 2013.

According to federal prosecutors, Reed was in charge of the evidence vault at Arkansas State Police headquarters in Little Rock, where he stole drugs and then gave them to an accomplice to sell on the streets.

When the FBI searched his home, agents found $13,000 in cash hidden behind a picture frame, a state police gun that had been reported "lost or stolen" and a significant amount cocaine and heroin, according to court documents.

After reviewing the case, a federal judge said Reed may have been stealing drugs from evidence since as early as 2005.

Reed has been held in the Pulaski County Detention Center at the request of the U.S. Marshals since his July 2013 arrest.

He's expected to enter the change of plea on July 30 at 11am.
