COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX/WTTE) – A Columbus Police lieutenant who's under internal investigation has sued the Columbus Division of Police on behalf of , who is the subject of an internal investigation by the department.

Lieutenant Melissa McFadden was recommended to be fired by Columbus Police chief Kim Jacobs when an international investigation claimed she created a racially-charged workplace, hostile work environment, and violated federal Equal Employment Opportunity laws.

The lawsuit -- filed in federal court by McFadden's lawyer -- claims the Columbus Division of Police "retaliated and discriminated against" McFadden without due process.

McFadden is now on desk duty and in the property room, according to the lawsuit, which calls the post "humiliating" and prevents her from receiving overtime pay.

Chief Jacobs' termination recommendation has to reviewed by the city's safety director , who's the only person able to approve the firing.
