When an inmate is caught trying to break out of jail it adds more time to their sentence, but one prisoner in the Eunice City Jail found out the same holds true even when you are trying to break in.

Past the barbed wires and high concrete walls, authorities say one prisoner was able to get past security and crawl along the ceiling of the jail.

But the man who earned trustee status didn't make it very far. The trustee fell through the ceiling just feet away from the evidence room.

Eunice Police Chief Gary Fontenot tells us, he wasn't able to make it inside because of the reinforced ceiling.

"We did reinforce the ceiling of the evidence room probably 8 or 9 years ago, because someone had entered through at the time was the chiefs office"

The Chief doesn't believe the prisoner was trying to tamper with evidence, but rather get his hands on what's inside the room.

" They know that in the evidence room we have a bit of drugs, I mean marijuana, ecstasy, crack cocaine, everything that we pick up through different arrests that are being held until these people go to court. It's still stored inside our evidence room."

The Chief tells us overpopulation in the jail has forced them to put trustees in a less secure area, but after this incident, that's going to change.
