MATAGORDA COUNTY, TX – The Matagorda County Sheriff's Department report that 50 Kilos of what is thought to be cocaine have been found washed up on the beaches of Matagorda County over the past several days.
The Sheriffs Department is urging people to be cautious of anything suspicious they find on the beach and call the proper authorities for the safety of themselves as well as the greater population.
The office warns that the packages themselves should not be handled as the seawater can seep in and liquify the contents of the package which can then infect the package holder through the skin.
The result can be sickening or even fatal to the personal holding the package. "Also, once a person picks up the package, that person is in possession of the package and could be charged for the criminal charge of Possession." according to the Sheriff's Department press release.
If you find a suspicious packages on the beach please notify the Matagorda County Sheriff's Office immediately at (979)245-5526 so that they can processed, photographed, and placed in evidence lockers prior to being properly disposed of.
