SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A retired Springfield police officer accused of stealing nearly $400,000 from the department's evidence locker was in court again on Monday.

Kevin Burnham was only briefly in the courtroom at Hampden Superior Court in Springfield, where his trial date was confirmed for May 31.

Burnham had been scheduled to be in court on March 20, but he was not there. Justice Richard Carey said at the time that the case was being postponed due to a medical condition.

Burnham is accused of stealing money that came from some 170 different drug cases over a four and a half year period from December of 2009 through July 2014. Burnham had been a 43-year veteran of the department, and at the time of his retirement, was the longest-serving officer on the force in Springfield.
