A former Redstone Township police officer pleaded guilty this week to stealing money and a computer from a police evidence room.
Norman Leo Howard III, 44, of Uniontown entered the plea in Fayette County court to charges of theft, tampering with evidence and obstructing the administration of law. A sentencing hearing date has not been set.
According to police, Howard took $2,704 and a desktop computer that Redstone police had seized during investigations. Howard's replacement at the department following his arrest on unrelated domestic violence allegations noticed tampering with evidence envelopes that led to his arrest, according to police. The domestic violence charges were later dismissed
In October, Howard pleaded guilty in federal court to punching a man who was in Redstone police custody and falsifying records to justify the use of force. He was sentenced in January to three years of probation and six months of home detention.
