JASPER COUNTY — The Jasper County Grand Jury has indicted a former Jasper police officer who is accused of burglarizing the evidence storage room of the Kirbyville Police Department, where his father serves as police chief, according to Steve W Stewart of our media partner KJAS.
40-year-old Samuel Paul Brister of Kirbyville was indicted on a charge of burglary of a building and stands accused of breaking into the building on May 5, 2018. The indictment states Brister is accused of stealing marijuana from the evidence storage room.
His father, Paul Brister, said that when he discovered the burglary, he called in both the Jasper County Sheriff's Office and the Texas Rangers to investigate, and Samuel Paul Brister was arrested three days later. He was later freed from jail on a $10,000.00 bond.
Brister became a Jasper police officer in June of 2001 and reached the rank of sergeant before he left in December of 2009.
