GALESBURG, Ill. (WEEK) — The detective work of one dedicated Galesburg police officer reunited a family with their parents' long-lost wedding ring.
Earlier this month, Sgt. Bryan Anderson found a wedding ring which had sat in an evidence vault for years. A set of initials and a date etched into the ring provided a starting point for the investigation.
Anderson sifted through Knox County Court wedding files dating back to the 1940s to determine who owned the ring. Both the husband and wife are now deceased, but Anderson was able to search obituaries, probate records and other sources to locate the son of the couple.
The son drove to Galesburg the next day to retrieve the ring. Though the ring has little monetary value, the son wrote a note to Anderson thanking him for returning the family heirloom.
