HORNELL, NY (WENY) -- A Hornell Police Officer is in jail, after an investigation into missing funds from the department's evidence room.

Thirty-nine year old Jennifer Speed of Hornell is charged with Grand Larceny, Falsifying Business Records, and two different charges of Tampering. According to District Attorney Brooks Baker, Speed stole $15,000 from the evidence room related to an attempted murder case from 2012. The funds were supposed to be turned over to the DA's office for the victim's medical expenses.

At the time the money went missing, Speed was a senior evidence custodian. She's now in the Steuben County jail without bail.
