MIAMI (CBS12) — A 50-year-old man was arrested in connection to a cold case murder from 1990, Miami-Dade police said.
Lucio Leon, of Hialeah, was shot and killed Mar. 2, 1990 while walking near his restaurant, "Tuyo y Mio" on NW 35th Avenue, according to police. When they arrived, police found the 47-year-old had been shot several times and robbed in the parking lot.
At the time, investigators gathered all evidence to include blood inside the abandoned vehicle, which was recovered nearby, police said. As the years went by and scientific advancements were developed in DNA analysis, a DNA profile of the suspect, Alexe Nodal of Sweetwater, was matched to the blood found inside the vehicle in 1990.
Investigators from the Miami-Dade Police Homicide Cold Case Squad continued to follow all leads, leading them to Nodal and charging him with the murder of Lucio Leon, according to police.
The investigation continues.
