Merritt RCMP Staff Sgt. Stuart Seib has resigned after allegations he stole cocaine from a police evidence locker.

Senior media relations officer Sgt. Rob Vermeulen confirmed reports of Seib's resignation in a brief written statement.

"I can confirm that Mr. Seib has tendered his resignation from the force, which has been accepted," stated Vermeulen.

"His career with the RCMP has ended. As a private citizen he is no longer subject to any disciplinary actions under the RCMP Act."

Seib was suspended as head of the Merritt RCMP detachment in January after he was charged with theft following allegations he stole and used cocaine stored in the locker.

Seib was stationed in Clearwater until November 2011, when he was transferred to Merritt.

Following the initial charges, RCMP investigators examined every case Seib had handled.

Seib's case came up in a Merritt court Wednesday and was adjourned to July 3.

Court heard that two extra charges have been laid - another for theft under $5,000 as well as breach of trust - dating back to June 2010.
