PUEBLO WEST – More than 25 years after the crime, Pueblo County deputies arrested a suspect in a cold case murder from Texas on Thursday.
Pueblo County Sheriff's deputies and U.S. Marshals arrested 73-year-old Jesse Hogue in connection to the February 1994 murder of his ex-wife Jackie Hogue in Potter County, Texas. He was taken into custody during a traffic stop Platteville Boulevard and Raymont Drive a little after noon Thursday.
Jackie Hogue was the mother of four children. Jesse was still living in Amarillo, Texas with the family even after the divorce when the murder occurred. She was shot twice in the back of the head. Jackie's mother and one of her kids found her body.
Lt. Steve White with the Potter County Sheriff's Office said that Jesse had long been considered suspect in the case and his location was known to authorities. However, investigators were previously unable to find enough evidence to make an arrest.
White said the producers of the true crime show "Cold Justice," which airs on the Oxygen Network, reached out in 2018 to express an interest in the case. They met with the production team in January to review the file.
"We just went back over to the file again, we talked to each and every person that was originally talked to and we were able to get some clarification and actually present that to the grand jury," White said.
The grand jury indicted Hogue last week and the Potter County Sheriff's Office notified the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office and the US Marshals Service.
"This was great teamwork by our detectives and the U.S. Marshal Service in locating and arresting this suspect and bringing some resolution to this 25-year-old cold case," said Pueblo County Sheriff Kirk M. Taylor in a news release.
Hogue is being held without bond at the Pueblo County Jail awaiting extradition to Texas.
