DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. — The State Bureau of Investigation is conducting a criminal investigation into potential theft of evidence from the Davidson County Sheriff's Office by a deputy.

According to Special Agent in Charge Scott Williams, Sheriff David Grice requested the SBI look into possible missing evidence on Aug. 24.

The SBI started a criminal investigation into the potential theft on Aug. 31. Williams said they are looking at a deputy for allegedly stealing cash from the evidence room. Williams would not comment on how much money was stolen or who the deputy is, but he did say the deputy is still currently working at the sheriff's office.

Williams said he expects the investigation will be completed in the next couple of weeks at which point they will turn the case over to District Attorney Garry Frank.

At this point no charges have been filed.
