An Aberdeen Police lieutenant has been charged after officials say he stole and consumed drugs such as OxyContin, heroin, fentanyl and cocaine.
Aberdeen Police Department lieutenant Daniel E. Gosnell, 38, has been charged with misconduct in office and possession of controlled dangerous substances, State Prosecutor Emmet Davitt said on Wednesday.
Gosnell is an 18-year veteran of the Aberdeen Police Department.
Davitt says that that the officer stole the drugs from an evidence locker and a citizen prescription drop box.
The investigation was handled by the Maryland State Police who determined that more than 200 drug evidence submissions were tampered with or were missing because of Gosnell's alleged actions.
