SALT LAKE CITY – Police have arrested a man in a Salt Lake City murder case that has been cold for 26 years.
Viengkeo K. Sundara, 49, faces a first-degree felony charge of murder for the stabbing death of Youthalouth Oudanonh during a dance at 120 W 1300 S in Salt Lake City back in 1991.
Sundara allegedly stabbed another man as two others held the victim.
The two others were arrested but Sundara's trail went cold.
"It was our belief that maybe he had fled the country and had gone back to Laos and luckily we were able to through the help of some other agencies to locate him in California it is my understanding and he was arrested on these charges as well," Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill said.
Gill also said DNA technology has advanced to the point where they now have the forensic evidence to charge Sundara.
His bail is set at $1 million.
